Regular pruning is going to be the number one need of the plants in your landscape beds. Even ‘low-maintenance’ landscapes usually require pruning twice per year.

Pruning plants at face value seems simple enough, but it is best if you have a thorough understanding of the plant in need of pruning before you being making cuts!

Shrub Pruning

Bushes and shrubs are the most common plants we prune.

Small Tree Pruning

We can prune low-hanging branches and small trees not requiring a ladder.

Hedgerow Trimming

When plants are planted close together and eventually grow together, they are referred to as hedges or hedgerows. We special is pruning hedgerows to perfection!

The most common bushes and shrubs we prune are roses, boxwoods, taxis and yews, barberries, and hydrangeas.

Other Plants We Prune

The most common small trees we prune are pear trees, crab apples, and pussy willows.

Ornamental grasses are the circular grass clumps you often find in landscape beds in NKY. These need to be cutback in the spring or fall for new growth to come through the next growing season. We recommend do prune these back in the fall as they tend to make a mess if left up all winter long.

Perennials such as liriope and hostas also need to be cut back each spring or fall. We also recommend to prune these in the fall becuase if you wait to the spring an early growth sprut could really make removing only the spend material a very difficult, if not impossible, task.
